Wheaties FUEL to Make Introduction into Cup series at Indy: Wheaties Fuel, Clint Bowyer and the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing team are hoping that new colors will help fuel them to a win in Indianapolis this summer. Today, the team announced that a black and orange Wheaties Fuel-themed No. 33 Chevrolet will be the primary colors for driver Clint Bowyer during the annual Brickyard 400 on Sunday, July 25. This is the first time that Wheaties Fuel will be a primary sponsor in the Cup Series. "Wheaties FUEL was engineered to deliver long-lasting energy," said David Clark, vice president for Wheaties. "It's a perfect match to bring the Wheaties Fuel colors to Indianapolis this summer to help Bowyer and the No. 33 team compete in one of the most prestigious races of the season." Wheaties Fuel, which was developed with the help of Peyton Manning, triathlete Hunter Kemper, Kevin Garnett, gold medal-winning decathlete Bryan Clay, Albert Pujols and sports nutritionist Dr. John Ivy, was designed to help meet the nutritional needs of today's champion athletes. "RCR was honored to run a Wheaties paint scheme on the No. 3 car in 1997, and we're equally honored to have Clint Bowyer run the Wheaties Fuel scheme on the No. 33 this year," said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. "It's great to be connected with such an iconic brand, creating a new identity with a new generation."
"Indianapolis is one of the most historic venues in all of motorsports, where only the best of the best have earned victories," said RCR driver Clint Bowyer. "Everyone in the garage wants to win this race. The No. 33 team, fueled by Wheaties Fuel, is prepared to give it their all so we can be the ones kissing the bricks after the checkered flag waves." Bowyer cites better teamwork for turnaround: The biggest differences for Richard Childress Racing this season? Clint Bowyer says it’s hard work and teamwork. RCR was shut out of the Chase for the Sprint Cup and victory lane in 2009. Of its four drivers — Bowyer, Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick and Casey Mears — Bowyer (15th) was the highest in points. RCR has Bowyer, Burton and Harvick in its stable now. With Harvick winning at Talladega last week, all three are in the top 12 in points going into this weekend’s Heath Calhoun 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Harvick is second, Bowyer 11th and Burton 12th. “The biggest thing is teamwork in any organization, doesn’t matter what you do,” Bowyer said. “I feel like moving down to three teams at RCR really forced us to work together as a group. I feel like we’re as strong as we’ve ever been. (Richmond Times Dispatch)

Bowyer: NASCAR has do something to cater to our fans: criticism about the racing. The comments come as NASCAR considers replacing the rear wing with a spoiler if it improves competition. NASCAR officials also might relax some rules at restrictor-plate races. Last year, NASCAR Sprint Cup TV ratings declined on Fox (11 percent), TNT (9 percent) and ABC (8 percent). ESPN’s ratings were up 5 percent. “Right now, we need to do something” with the rules, Clint Bowyer said. “Our fans are not happy. You got to do something to cater to our fans. “(NASCAR has) made a lot of changes on this car over the years, but nobody has been able to see them. You take a wing off the back, put a spoiler on it, a fan watching on TV can see that change. He’s going to stay tuned and follow how that reacts and how it changes the sport going on into the season."(Virginian-Pilot)
