Harvick and Biffle to sport "Call 811" scheme: Two top race teams and the Governor of Alabama are among those supporting "Call 811" and National Safe Digging Month surrounding the upcoming April 25 race in Talladega. Kevin Harvick of Richard Childress Racing (RCR) will run the "Call 811" logo on the deck lid and rocker panels of the No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevy at Talladega Superspeedway. The logo will also run on the hood, deck lid and TV panel of the No. 16 3M Ford Fusion. The addition of the logo is part of a larger effort to educate fans and encourage them to make a quick and easy call to 811 to help protect people from unintentionally hitting underground pipelines, infrastructure and utility lines, which can put the community and environment at risk. In addition to RCR and 3M backing the cause, Alabama Governor Bob Riley has proclaimed April as National Safe Digging month in the state of Alabama and is urging all excavators and homeowners to call 811 before doing ANY digging. In an effort to promote public safety, Shell, 3M, and RCR, in conjunction with the Common Ground Advisory and its members, are encouraging homeowners and contractors to call 811 before they dig to prevent injuries, property damage and inconvenient outages. Every digging job requires a call even small projects like planting trees or shrubs.(PR)

Biffle and the Friends of the Animals sign land deal:Friends of the Animals, a non-profit group co-chaired by NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and his wife Nicole created to promote responsible pet ownership, provide low cost spay-neuter services and promote the adoption of homeless animals, has inked a valuable land deal with Langtree Group for 1.5 acres in the lakeside development. Langtree at the Lake is located off Interstate 77 North at exit 31. Friends of the Animals plans to use the land to build a no-kill animal and education center that will include a low-cost spay and neuter clinic. The group hopes the center will be open within the next two years. The animal sanctuary will house 150 animals; 60 cats and 90 dogs, which will be available for adoption. The animal education and community center will be available to churches, community groups and the public for birthday parties and meetings. The developers at Langtree at the Lake have worked with Friends of the Animals to allow them to use their green space for a community dog park and walking trails. The Langtree at the Lake community will be home to lakeside condominiums and village-center lofts with sweeping lake views and easy water access. The mixed use development will offer access to exclusive specialty shoppes and boutiques, small cafés and unique restaurants, as well as Class-A office space. There will be 40 acres of Green Space: 2 1/2 miles of walking trails around a man-made lake and over a mile of beautiful Lake Norman shoreline. “Friends of the Animals searched for several years to find a location that would be easy for the public to access. If the location is easy and friendly, we know it will increase adoptions and spay/neuters for the animals,” says Nicole Biffle, President of the Friends of the Animals Board. Friends of the Animals is working with several other rescue groups and shelters in the area with the goal of sharing resources to benefit all animals in the area. “Our Board is excited to take this step toward reaching our goal of saving cats and dogs through adoption and by providing a low cost spay/neuter option to the public,” says Biffle.(Roush Racing)

Logano vs Biffle rivalry brewing? There’s another sign that Joey Logano has fully arrived: a brewing rivalry with another driver. Logano had the dominant car in the second-tier NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Fontana on Saturday, where he led five times for 130 of the 152 laps in the Stater Bros. 300. But in an overtime restart, Logano lost the lead to Greg Biffle after Biffle, according to Logano, gave him a shove from behind. Logano finished fifth. “I don’t know what his deal is with me, but for some reason in California, [Biffle] feels like putting me in the fence or hitting me toward the end. We had an awesome race car that should have won the race,” Logano said. Biffle, who lost the lead himself to race winner Kyle Busch on the last lap, denied Logano’s charge and said Logano made “a rookie mistake” by spinning his tires on the restart in front of Biffle. As for intentionally trying to wreck Logano, Biffle said, “that’s obviously not the case. I mean, if I wanted to do that, it’s pretty easy to do.” In any case, Logano summed up the Biffle incident sounding like a Cup veteran instead of a second-year driver. “I always remember that stuff,” Logano said. Greg Biffle: Our goal is to go and win every Chase race: Greg Biffle isn't worried about point racing now that he's made the Chase: "While you're going to hear a lot of talk about points racing and trying to avoid the big accident or mechanical failure, our goal is to go out and win every one of these races. We're going to run flat-out as hard as we can for the next 10 weeks because that's how you end up getting the best finish you can. If you don't run as hard as you can every week, you're not going to win this championship -- plain and simple."(USA Today)

Biffle: NASCAR needs variety of manufacturers: Greg Biffle, driver of the Roush-Fenway Racing Fords, feels there is a definite need for a variety of manufacturers to compete against one another on the race track. After all, that competition is what NASCAR has been built on since it was formed in February of 1948. "It certainly affects Ford as well, as far as supplier issues," Biffle said. "They need those other car companies to survive. As we probably know, there have already been cutbacks from the support of those auto manufacturers and what people have to get through their head is that we're gonna be racing race cars and certainly there is always going to be auto manufacturers but we're gonna be racing race cars with or without them. The amount of support they provide us is important, but we can continue to race without that support. It just means the amount of cutback on technology or testing or whatever else." Biffle expects seamless change from Roush to Yates: Roush Fenway Racing has to eliminate one of its five Cup cars next season in order to meet NASCAR's limit of four cars per team. "I don't know if it makes it easier or not, but we've known for some time that we're going to have to reduce the number to four teams," Greg Biffle said. "We've worked hard on putting in place an alliance with Yates Racing that our teams can still communicate and still share technologies with all of us being Ford teams, so I think we've positioned ourselves well (enough) that it's going to be a seamless change between moving one of our teams or selling one of our teams over to Yates. I would imagine that would be what's going to take place. I don't know that for a fact, but I would anticipate that's what would happen -- to move a team over there and have those guys run it over on their side." (USA Today)

Biffle is confident he'll remain at Roush Fenway although performance must improve: Greg Biffle says he's 90 percent sure he will sign an extension with Roush Fenway Racing beyond the end of his contract next season. But he added that won't happen until he sees an improvement with the performance of his team, which is 19th in points. "If I am not happy, why should I negotiate?" he said before Friday's practice at Michigan International Speedway. "I need to run better. We've got a couple of weak links. We want to strengthen our team a little better. We need to show up at the race track being competitive off the truck. "I didn't forget how to drive at Pocono. We were 43rd at Pocono before qualifying. Qualified 42nd and ran 30th. And I am not going to sign a 5-year extension running like that." (ESPN.com)
