Joey Logano donates sleds to U.S. Paralympic hockey team: NASCAR driver Joey Logano has teamed up with a local ice skating rink to help fund the U.S. Paralympic sled hockey team. The team's sleds were in rough shape. So, Logano's charity, along with the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail, developed new, state-of-the-art sleds. "It's just like a racecar, you know. You're at the shop trying to build the best equipment you can take to the track and that's the same thing we tried for them -- build them the best sled we can get out there for them," Logano said. Logano vs Biffle rivalry brewing? There’s another sign that Joey Logano has fully arrived: a brewing rivalry with another driver. Logano had the dominant car in the second-tier NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Fontana on Saturday, where he led five times for 130 of the 152 laps in the Stater Bros. 300. But in an overtime restart, Logano lost the lead to Greg Biffle after Biffle, according to Logano, gave him a shove from behind. Logano finished fifth. “I don’t know what his deal is with me, but for some reason in California, [Biffle] feels like putting me in the fence or hitting me toward the end. We had an awesome race car that should have won the race,” Logano said. Biffle, who lost the lead himself to race winner Kyle Busch on the last lap, denied Logano’s charge and said Logano made “a rookie mistake” by spinning his tires on the restart in front of Biffle. As for intentionally trying to wreck Logano, Biffle said, “that’s obviously not the case. I mean, if I wanted to do that, it’s pretty easy to do.” In any case, Logano summed up the Biffle incident sounding like a Cup veteran instead of a second-year driver. “I always remember that stuff,” Logano said. (LA Times)

Logano wins Toyota All-Star Showdown: Joey Logano got his second NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown trophy and Sergio Pena nearly made a historic debut on the national stage. Logano, 19, held off the 16-year-old Pena and two-time race winner Matt Kobyluck for the victory in the 225-lap race Saturday before a sold-out crowd at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. It was Pena's first career race in NASCAR's top developmental series and it came in the non-points, postseason event, which has earned the moniker the "Daytona 500 of short-track racing." Logano made his mark by winning as a 17-year-old rookie in the 2007 edition; Pena, who only has one year of Late Model racing on his resume, nearly out-did that. Logano wound up leading a race-high 171 laps. Pena led the other 54 and they swapped the lead five times. Following Logano, Pena and Kobyluck across the line was Matt DiBenedetto and Andrew Myers. Eric Holmes, David Mayhew, Eddie MacDonald, Paulie Harraka and Steve Park rounded out the top 10. Reigning NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Champion Jason Bowles finished 11th while K&N Pro Series East 2009 titlist Ryan Truex was relegated to 26th after a late-race accident.(NASCAR PR)

Logano honored at breakfest: A day after winning a bobsled competition in Lake Placid, N.Y, Joey Logano traded parka for pancakes Monday morning on a trip back to his home state. The 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year and Middletown native was the guest of honor at Monday's Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce monthly member breakfast at the Crowne Plaza. After receiving keys to the city of Middletown and town of Cromwell and the Chamber's Role Model award from its president, Larry McHugh, Logano spent about an hour answering questions from the crowd of about 650. Logano to compete in Toyota All-Star Showdown: Joey Logano, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rookie of the year and driver of the No. 20 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, has entered the All-Star Showdown race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. This will be Logano's third start in the Showdown, a 225-lap NASCAR race that pits the top drivers from the Camping World West and East series. Logano won the Showdown race in 2007 as a 17-year-old rookie in the East Series. (LA Times)

Logano wins Bodine Bobsled Challenge: The Fifth Annual Lucas Oil Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge presented by Whelen Engineering concluded on Sunday with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Joey Logano a winner. Logano defeated Melanie Troxel from the NHRA in Sunday's Race 2 finals, which pitted the fastest NASCAR representative against the fastest from the NHRA. Logano's run of 49.81 seconds edged the 50.08 of Troxel, who was the champion of Race 1 earlier in the day. "I'm happy with my time, and it makes it a ton of fun to finally get a win," Logano said. "This is a blast." A three-year participant in the Bodine Bobsled Challenge, Sunday's Race 2 overall win was the first in a bobsled for Logano. Logano recorded the second-fastest time, just behind NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Todd Bodine, during the first round of competition against his fellow NASCAR competitors, and advanced to the semifinals in the head-to-head portion of the racing with a win against part-time driver and ESPN NASCAR analyst Boris Said. Logano then defeated Bodine in the semifinals to earn a match-up with Troxel. Troxel made it to the finals of Race 2 by recording the fastest time among her NHRA competitors in the first round, then defeated Morgan Lucas in the semifinals. Earlier in the day the event's 10 participants competed in Race 1, which determined an overall winner based on the combined time of two runs. Troxel took top honors with a composite time of 1:39.33 to just edge fellow NHRA representative Jeg Coughlin Jr. at 1:39.40. Said was third overall, and fastest among the NASCAR drivers at 1:39.69. Bodine was fourth at 1:39.82. Said recorded the fastest single run of any competitor on Sunday, a trip of 49.21 seconds during the first round of Race 1. The Bodine Bobsled Challenge was held on Mount Van Hovenburg in rural Lake Placid, site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, and the 2009 World Bobsled Championships. The event is geared to create awareness and greater funding for the Bo-Dyn Bobsled Project, Inc., which provides made-in-America bobsleds for the United States men's and women's national teams. Action from the Bobsled Challenge is scheduled to air on SPEED on Jan. 24 and Jan. 31 (NASCAR PR)

Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick is owner of the year, and Mark Martin is the 2009 Dale Earnhardt Tough Driver. The top driver and crew chief will be announced Thursday. All five awards were voted on by Sprint Cup drivers, crew chiefs and owners.(Sporting News)

Logano named 2009 ROTY: Joey Logano scored a 24th-place finish and was the top rookie in Sunday's Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He claimed Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors 26 times in 36 races this season. Logano scored his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory in at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Logano is the third driver from Joe Gibbs Racing to win Raybestos Rookie of the Year, joining Tony Stewart (1999) and Denny Hamlin (2006). YOU OFICIALLY CLINCHED RAYBESTOS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR TONIGHT. "All right, cool. That's cool. That was one of our big goals this year. It's pretty neat to win Raybestos Rookie of the Year. I appreciate that," said Logano.(Raybestos)

Logano to compete in Bodine's Bobsled event: NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Joey Logano will return to compete in the 5th Annual Lucas Oil Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge in Lake Placid on Jan. 8-10. It is the third time the 19-year-old has competed in the Bodine Bobsled Challenge. Logano's bobsled will carry the same Home Depot livery that appears on his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry Sprint Cup car. He finished second to Todd Bodine in the last event held in January. The money raised will help fund the Bo-Dyn Bobsled Project which builds the sleds for the USA Olympic team. (Star-Gazette)

No. 20 Crew wins Tissot Pit Road Precission Award: Joey Logano's No. 20 crew claimed the Tissot Pit Road Precision Award in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway. It was the first Tissot win of the season for the Joe Gibbs Racing crew and the 15th different team to capture the pit road weekly competition. Logano's No. 20 Toyota Camry spent the least amount of time on pit road 204.366 seconds -- during the 200-lap, 400-mile race. The effort lifted the rookie driver to a seventh place finish and his fifth top-10 of the season. Logano's over-the-wall crew consists of: Ira Jo Hussey (front-tire changer), Thomas Dean (front-tire carrier), Aaron Smith (rear-tire changer), Eric Groen (rear-tire carrier), Jason Tate (jackman), Jeff Clark (gasman), Brian Larson (catch can). The team's crew chief is Greg Zipadelli and the pit crew coach is Mike Lepp. Logano's crew will collect $5,000 for the pit road win. The team with the most Tissot Pit Road Precision Award wins at the completion of the 36-race Sprint Cup schedule will receive a $100,000 bonus plus Tissot watches for the crew and driver. After the 23rd of 36 races Greg Biffle's No. 16 crew leads the Tissot standings with four wins. Jeff Gordon's and Jimmie Johnson's crews are tied for second with three wins each.(Tissot PR)

Logano on R. Gordon: You can't fix stupid: Joey Logano, who was wrecked pretty blatant by Robby Gordon and sent spinning into a tire barrier. Logano's fuel lines came loose and the car caught fire, forcing him out of the race. "Apparently, we got in a little grudge match after I cut down his tire," Logano said. "It's a pretty raw deal. You can't fix stupid, it's forever. You put that in your memory bank."(Alabama Live)

Logano now part of Gillette Young Guns: Gillette announced that it will heat things up this summer by adding recent NASCAR race winner Joey Logano, driver of the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota, to its elite group of Gillette Young Guns Drivers which includes Clint Bowyer, Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Kasey Kahne and Ryan Newman. Logano earned his rookie stripes from his fellow Gillette Young Guns during the filming of a new commercial to support the Gillette Optimal Shave indicator strip, which alerts consumers that it is time to change their blades when the strip color changes from blue to white. The commercial features all seven Gillette Young Guns and highlights Logano as the latest addition to the roster of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stars.(Gillette PR)

Logano wins at Pocono: Joey Logano turned his test and tune day Saturday afternoon at Pocono Raceway into an ARCA RE/MAX Series triumph. Logano, in the Venturini Motorsports-prepared Home Depot Toyota, entered the Pocono ARCA 200 to get seat-time for the next-day Pocono 500 Cup race. The Middletown, Connecticut driver got that and plenty more as he led the most laps en route to his second series victory in his fourth series start.(ARCARacing.com)

Logano says Gibbs is being patient: Joey Logano is fourth in the Nationwide Series standings and has placed in the top five in three of the past four Nationwide starts. "It's the biggest jump that I've ever made," Logano said. "Nationwide to (Sprint) Cup is a huge jump. When you look at it, you are running with so many Cup guys (in Nationwide). But the Cup cars are so different that Nationwide cars. The competition is so stiff. It's just going to take time. Joe Gibbs and Home Depot are being patient with me, which is good." (The State)

Logano wants more Goodyear tire tests: Joey Logano in his USA Today diary writes... "It was back to Daytona International Speedway on Monday and Tuesday for a Goodyear tire test. It went well, and we learned some things on the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota. Even though the purpose of the test is to help Goodyear pick a tire that will race well, you get to change a lot of stuff you want on the car most of the time. There is a certain point where you've got to do what Goodyear wants, but the first part of the day, you get to tune the car. Then they start throwing different tires at you, and they let you get in a pack to draft and let you play with your car a little bit more. Goodyear still is the big priority, though, and they decide which teams attend the tests. You want to do what's good for Goodyear so you can be asked to do more of these tests." (USA Today)

Logano: Unsure how victory lane works if he wins this weekend: If Joey Logano wins the Crown Royal Presents The Russ Friedman 400 on Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway, he'll gladly take the check and trophy. But he won't take a celebratory swig of whiskey. At 18, the Sprint Cup and Nationwide driver can only pour down a bottle of milk or water. "It's the law I guess," said Logano, who isn't old enough to drink alcohol. "We'll try to win the race and deal with it later. I don't have an idea how it works." (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Which NASCAR rookie drivers are testing? Joey Logano spent Tuesday testing in Rockingham, N.C., after about six hours at Virginia International Raceway on Monday. Any extra time at tracks that resemble Cup tracks helps. He’s also tested at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida. A testing overhaul isn’t Red Bull Racing’s strategy. Scott Speed spent Tuesday hanging out at Sea World in Orlando, getting spit at by a Beluga whale. The No. 82 Red Bull Toyota team, he said, hasn’t done any testing at non-NASCAR sanctioned tracks, and doesn’t think that would help. The tracks, he said, are much too different. (Boston Herald)

J.D. Gibbs gives Logano vote of confidence: Rumors earlier this month that Joe Gibbs Racing considered replacing Joey Logano with Martin Truex Jr. didn't reach Logano until Joe Gibbs told the rookie they weren't true. "I like this saying: the brighter the spotlight on you, the more bugs it attracts," Logano said. "The more people are going to talk about you, the more all that's going to happen. ... If people want to make stuff up that's fine." Since then, the organization has emphasized its confidence in the 18-year-old's future. "Watching everything he's done up to this point, he's really gifted," said J.D. Gibbs, president of Joe Gibbs Racing. "He's the guy; we feel like he's the guy of the future." (Orlando Sentinel)

One of Logano's favorite tracks is Phoenix: Joey Logano on racing at Phoenix "I love Phoenix. It could be one of my favorite tracks, if not my favorite. There's just something about it - I took to that place immediately. I ran the Camping World West race out there and won that. I should have won the Nationwide race out there last year so we have been fast every time we've been there. I got to do the tire test out there in The Home Depot Toyota and it's just a place that I seem to understand well. It's got two different ends - one is real sharp and you have to keep working on your forward drive off that one and the other is sweeping, more like a New Hampshire corner. It's cool and it wears out your tires quite a bit and you have to be smart out there with your tires." (JGR PR)

Truex to leave EGR to replace Logano at Gibbs? The buzz in the garage has Earnhardt Ganassi Racing shutting down the No. 8 Chevrolet and sidelining Aric Almirola after this weekend if a sponsor doesn't magically appear. If that happens, three contracts are affected: Martin Truex Jr., Bass Pro Shops Racing and Chevrolet. Truex's contract states that he must have two teammates or he can leave the team. Bass Pro Shops has a performance clause and with Truex 28th in owner points, the No. 1 team is in a precarious position. Finally, Chevrolet can alter its support to EGR if three teams are not under the roof. The hot rumor at Martinsville last week had Truex replacing Joey Logano in the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota. Joe Gibbs Racing president J.D. Gibbs insisted Sunday and again by phone on Wednesday that "Joey's our guy." "We haven't had any conversations with anyone," Gibbs said. "We'd like to have someone in line by summer time, but you have to sit down, look at what partner is available, what driver is available and who would be a good fit for the team. "We had Hall of Fame last year and we don't have it now. So we have room for a fourth team. We'd love to have it." (FOXSports.com)

Gibbs: Logano struggles go back to testing ban: Team owner Joe Gibbs believes Logano’s struggles can be traded to NASCAR's ban on testing, along with just plain bad luck. "A lot of things happened to us this year when we charted our course here," Gibbs said. "We got testing taken away from us. I think probably everybody would say it probably hurts the young guy a lot more than a vet, a guy that's been around. I think that was a tough deal for us. Really you pretty much have to show up at a racetrack. "Many times Joey has been at someplace where he's never had a lap in a Cup car, the Car of Tomorrow. I think it's been a struggle for us," Gibbs added. "He's had two wrecks. Other people caused them. Then we blow a motor. It's been disheartening." (MyFoxOrlando.com)

New HomeDepotRacing.com: HomeDepotRacing.com has been revamped for the 2009 season. Fans can track Joey’s races and appearances throughout the season, read about his experiences during his rookie campaign in Joey’s Journal and ask Joey questions that he will answer for fans.

Joey Logano to become youngest Daytona 500 starter: When Joey Logano climbs into the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota for the 51st running of the “Great American Race,” on Sunday, Feb. 15, he will make history as the youngest driver to start a Daytona 500 – NASCAR’s biggest, richest and most prestigious race. If Logano, who will be 18 years, 8 months and 22 days old on the date of this year’s Daytona 500, can get the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota and his Joe Gibbs Racing team into Gatorade Victory Lane in his first Daytona 500 start, he will surpass Jeff Gordon as the youngest driver to win the prestigious race. Gordon won his first Daytona 500 back in 1997 at the age of 25. “I went down there last five or six years and I’ve had to watch from the sidelines and to be involved in it (this) year is really exciting,” Logano said. (DIS PR)

Logano in Venturini Motorsports car for Daytona ARCA race: Venturini Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing will continue their alliance in 2009, beginning with the ARCA RE/MAX Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway on February 7th. JGR rookie phenom Joey Logano will be piloting the Venturini Motorsports prepared Toyota Camry in the legendary #25. On top of running the season opener at Daytona, Logano will also race for Venturini Motorsports on June 6th in the Pocono ARCA 200 at Pocono Raceway. “I am thrilled to have extended our alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing into the 2009 season, and am truly honored to have such a great talent as Joey Logano in our car,” commented Bill Venturini. “Myself and my whole Venturini Motorsports team are excited for this upcoming season, and wish to thank Joe Gibbs Racing for this opportunity.”(Venturini Motorsports PR)

More on Gibbs & Logano rumors: The rumor that Joe Gibbs Racing wanted to postpone Joey Logano's full-time entry into the Cup series until 2010 and put Kurt Busch or Martin Truex Jr. into the #20 next season was just that -- a rumor. "I don't know where that came from," JGR president J.D. Gibbs said. "Joey Logano will be in the #20 next year." Gibbs said he spent much of Saturday afternoon and early Sunday morning explaining to reporters and sponsors that there was nothing to the rumor and that the team was completely behind the 18-year-old phenom.(ESPN.com)

J.D. Gibbs denies Joey Logano rumors: Joe Gibbs Racing president J.D. Gibbs reiterated on Saturday that Joey Logano will drive the #20 Toyota in 2009. "Everything he's done up to now he's done exceptionally well," Gibbs said. "When you get to this level, everybody is really good." Logano has failed to finish on the lead lap in the three Cup races he's run this season, which has left the rookie with an average showing of 37th. In last Sunday's Dickie's 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, he was unable to maintain minimum speed on the racetrack. But NASCAR still allowed Logano to compete. "We threatened him within an inch of his life — just finish the race," Gibbs joked. "It's just going to take time."(FOXSports.com)

Logano interested in #20 in 2009: Joey Logano says he isn't campaigning to drive the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Sprint Cup car next season. Even so, the 18-year-old JGR Nationwide Series driver contends that he is interested in the ride, which will be vacated at season's end by Tony Stewart. Stewart is leaving the team after 10 seasons to become an owner/driver at the new Stewart-Haas Racing, which will absorb Haas CNC Racing at the start of  2009. “Nothing has really changed," said Logano, who is making his fifth career Nationwide start in tonight's Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 at Gateway International Raceway. "It’s pretty much the same deal. If they offer it to me, I’d take it. It’s something that has been talked about but I’m not in a position to say anything. I don’t really know what I’m going to do yet. ... I’m focused on the No. 20 Nationwide car right now and from there that is [team owner] Joe [Gibbs] and [team president] J.D.’s [Gibbs] deal.” (SceneDaily.com)

Logano in the #20 in 2009? Joey Logano acknowledged on Wednesday that he is a candidate to replace Tony Stewart in the #20 Sprint Cup car at Joe Gibbs Racing next season. "It has been brought up a few times," Logano said as he arrived at JGR for a morning workout. Logano wasn't shocked to hear that Stewart will be released from his final year at JGR next season to pursue other opportunities. Stewart was scheduled to tell his team on Wednesday that this will be his last season, then announce on Thursday in Chicago that he has bought into Haas CNC Racing and will drive for that team with another driver -- Ryan Newman, according to sources, is all but a done deal -- next year. Stewart will unveil his new car with Office Depot as the primary sponsor at a news conference in Indianapolis in two weeks, sources said. Logano, 18, said he will focus the rest of this season on his Nationwide Series ride and hope to get into a few Cup races before the end of the year to prepare him for next season.(ESPN.com)

Joey Lagano may attempt a few Cup races later this season: Joey Logano, who in only his third Nationwide Series start won on Saturday night at Kentucky Speedway, likely will compete in a few Sprint Cup races for Joe Gibbs Racing before the end of the season. "We would like to get him in some Cup stuff towards the end of the year," team owner Joe Gibbs said before Sunday's Cup race at Michigan International Speedway. "We want to make sure it's the good stuff and the right way." Gibbs said it was too late in the year to start a fourth Cup team for Logano to run fulltime next season. Asked if Logano might replace Tony Stewart should the two-time Cup champion leave for another team, Gibbs said, "I don't think we've gone in that direction yet. We're still trying to work things out." Stewart is being pursued by several teams, including at least one [Haas CNC Racing] that is offering ownership. Gibbs and his son, team president J.D. Gibbs, have been emphatic that they won't part with Stewart before his contract expires after 2009. They remain optimistic that he will re-sign with JGR and end his career there. "Certainly where we are with Tony right now it's hard to predict the future," Gibbs said. (ESPN.com)
