Stewart building log cabin in home state: Tony Stewart is building a log cabin back home in Indiana and is trying to use as many Indiana companies as he can. “When we sat in the initial meetings, it was really important to me to try to get as many companies as the builder was comfortable with out of Columbus (Indiana), in particular, to try to help out,” he said. “We’ve tried to stay as close to home as we could with every aspect of it.” (USA Today)

Stewart anticapates both Stewart-Haas cars will be championship contenders: Tony Stewart has raised expectations for his Stewart-Haas race team this season. Last season, his team was in a building stage as it entered the Sprint Cup. Despite the challenges, Stewart won four races and led the point standings at the end of the 26-race regular season. A second team car, driven by Ryan Newman, also qualified for the Chase playoffs. “A year ago none of us knew what to expect,” said Stewart, who ended up sixth in the final standings. “I’m so extremely proud of the group we assembled and the relationships we built. Both of us getting in the Chase is something I want both teams to do again. I feel we have two teams, not only to make the Chase but to be championship contenders.” Darian Grubb, the crew chief on Stewart’s No. 14 Chevrolet, added, “Last year, we were building. This year, we’re strengthening the areas where we were weak.” (San Bernadino Sun)

Office Depot honors Tony Stewart and Stewart's mother: The Office Depot Foundation the independent, non-profit foundation that serves as the primary charitable giving arm of Office Depot has recognized NASCAR driver Tony Stewart and his mother, Pam Boas, with the organization's highest honor: the "Listen Learn Care Award." This award reflects the Office Depot Foundation's mission Listen Learn Care - by honoring people who have been exceptionally creative and innovative in following their dreams and in helping others to realize their goals and aspirations. Stewart and Boas have exemplified the award criteria through their outstanding support of the Office Depot Foundation National Backpack Program, as well as the ongoing charitable work they carry out through the Tony Stewart Foundation. Stewart assisted the Office Depot Foundation last summer in donating its 2 millionth backpack since the inception of the National Backpack Program in 2001. The Indiana native personally presented backpacks filled with essential school supplies to children in need during "Back-to-School Backpack Celebration" events in Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Indianapolis and Kansas City. "It's a great honor to receive the Office Depot Foundation's 'Listen Learn Care Award,' especially alongside my mom," Stewart said. "I've been fortunate enough to accomplish my dream of driving race cars for a living, and my mom always supported me in that goal. It means a lot to both of us to be able to give back and help others especially kids as they work hard toward achieving their dreams, too." Boas, a board member of the Tony Stewart Foundation, assisted in donating more than 5,500 backpacks to a number of groups that the organization traditionally supports. These groups included the Bartholomew School District in Columbus, Ind., Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis and several summer camp programs for children who are ill or have other special needs. NASCAR legend Junior Johnson would take Stewart over Johnson: Junior Johnson said that, if he still owned a NASCAR team, Tony Stewart would be his first choice as driver. “Jimmie Johnson’s a great, great race-car driver,” said Johnson, himself a legendary driver, “but he’s got a mechanic (Chad Knaus) who’s one of the very best I’ve ever seen. “I believe if I was hiring a driver, I’d go after Tony.” (Gaston Gazette)

Stewart applauds NASCAR for revisiting tie-breaking assessment: So where to turn for a tie-breaking assessment? How about Tony Stewart, a driver (and now owner) that has been critical of plate-track rules and etiquette over the years. Surprisingly, though, Stewart wasn’t too adamant either way, though he applauds NASCAR for revisiting the rule. “I’m comfortable if they take [away] the yellow line rule,” he explained. “We understood why they brought it into the series, and the sport has evolved since it came into effect. I think the one thing about it [is] I’m proud of NASCAR; they’re constantly looking at things and a rule they put into effect that they’re talking about taking away now. “We all know what it feels like when you get into the grass on tires with no grooves in them — it’s not very fun. It’s always somewhat been a self-policing rule, anyway, and even with the yellow line rule, we’d occasionally get into the grass. I think there were times when we’ve got ourselves in positions [that] we didn’t necessarily want to be in where we were passing guys [under the yellow line] and knew that we had to give that spot back. In doing so, we were causing more problems behind us than we were in initially. “I really don’t think it’ll be a bad deal; I think the drivers are comfortable with that.”(Athlon Sports)

Stewart DNFs in Australia: American Donny Schatz has reigned supreme in the Scott Darley $50,000 to win presented by Coca Cola at Sydney's Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway in Austriala. Schatz won the 40-lap feature race aboard a car owned by Australian speedway legend Garry Rush ahead of fellow American Tim Shaffer and three-time Australian Champion Brooke Tatnell. It is the eighth time in ten years that Schatz has claimed the $50,000 winner's cheque, taking his tally to $400,000 from the event.Schatz fought hard for tonight's victory after starting from eighth spot, due to the inversion for the top eight seeded drivers in the event. After a three-way battle for the minor spots with his team-mate Tony Stewart and fellow American Tim Shaffer in the early part of the race, Schatz took the lead from Danny Smith with 17 laps remaining by using a sensational outside pass. Shaffer and Tatnell were both the big movers late in the race to claim the minor positions ahead of Americans Jason Johnson and Smith. Rounding out the top 10 was the Madsen brothers, Ian and Kerry, Ryan Farrell, Robbie Farr and Max Dumesny. Stewart, who combined a Christmas holiday with four events at the Parramatta venue, set the fastest time during yesterday's preliminary night's action before lining up on the outside of the front row in tonight's main event. Stewart was running inside the top three for the opening half of the race before a deflated right rear tyre put an early end to his Aussie campaign. Despite not finishing tonight's race, Stewart indicated that he had thoroughly enjoyed his time in Australia, which included watching the famous Sydney fireworks on New Year's Eve. "The highlight for me has been being here at Parramatta. Being at the racetrack is what I enjoy, I've been looking coming here for a few months. Away from the racetrack New Years Eve, seeing the Harbour Bridge and the fireworks was very cool and definitely the highlight," said Stewart. "We got better every night, so that was the biggest thing for me. It was nice to actually run the same track four nights in a row versus a race here and race there in a sprintcar. I've had a great time and I'm already trying to work on coming back next year."(BAM Media)

Update: Tony Stewart in Australia: Local Australia Sprintcar driver Glen Saville has upstaged his more fancied rivals to claim victory on the opening night of the Scott Darley $50,000 to win presented by Coca Cola at Sydney's Tyrepower City Raceway. The Cambden resident put in a mature drive and took full advantage of every opportunity that came his way during the 30-lap preliminary main event to claim the first feature race of his career. Saville took the win ahead of the East Coast Pipeline driver Robbie Farr and four-time World of Outlaws Champion Donny Schatz. Tony Stewart showed his true class by mastering the slick surface during qualifying ahead of fellow American Danny Smith. Stewart followed this performance up with a second place finish in his heat race before running strongly in the feature race to record a sixth place finish. "I probably guessed the wrong way in terms of set-up during tonight's feature race but we learnt a heap for tomorrow," said Stewart. "It was a bit of trial and error tonight but I felt a lot more comfortable in the car than the last couple of nights. I set quick time and finished second in my heat race which was pleasing. The speed of the track tonight was a bit more to my liking and the race pace was slower on the slick surface, I enjoyed myself out there again and am looking forward to tomorrow's final night." After the opening night's action, American sprintcar veteran Danny Smith leads the points standings on 489 points ahead of Schatz (488) and Stewart (487). Tomorrow night's action will consist of the dash races and the main events, which culminate in the 40-lap extravaganza where first place will claim the $50,000 winners cheque.(BAM Media)

Tony Stewart finishes 7th in Australian race: Four-time World of Outlaws Champion Donny Schatz continued his winning ways with victory in the Valvoline Australian Sprintcar Grand Prix at Sydney’s Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway on Saturday. Driving the Garry Rush-owned Pick’n’Payless entry, Schatz started the night off in flying fashion by setting the fastest time during qualifying before finishing second in his heat race. Schatz’s team boss in the World of Outlaws Series, NASCAR Legend Tony Stewart, was coming to grips with a rain soaked ‘heavy’ track during the early part of the evening before starting from the back row in the main event. “Tony is my boss 95% of the time and it's pretty neat to see him out here, he loves dirt track racing and loves these types of cars but I think tonight was a little bit trying for him. It was probably the hookiest and wettest track that he'd raced on in his life in a winged sprintcar and pretty trying for both of us to get him comfortable in the car. Tony came forward a long ways, learned a lot here tonight, had a lot of fun and got to see a lot of people out here.” Stewart came to grips with the challenging track surface during the feature race to steadily move forward before finding his way to seventh place in at the finish in one his rare appearances behind the wheel of an 800-plus horsepower Sprintcar. "I think to finish seventh from the tail was ok, it was a good first night for me, obviously not as good as my team-mate who won the race but he runs 100 races a year and I get to run three,” said Stewart. "I don't know how many days it is until we run again but I can't wait for it. I'm a little tired tonight, it is a set of muscles that I don't use very much but I had a blast. The rain really hurt the racetrack, it was hard, with the rain that we got over the last couple of days it was bound to make the track a little messy but I think everybody did a pretty good job considering the conditions.” Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway will light up again in two days time (Tuesday December 29) for the Hogs Breath Sprintcar International. Stewart to compete in race overseas: Tony Stewart, will be heading 'Down Under' to compete at Sydney's Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway later this month. Stewart will join four-time World of Outlaws Champion Donny Schatz and All Star Series Champion Tim Shaffer in an American invasion of Sydney's famous Speedway venue over the Christmas/New Year period. Not since Stewart's hero A.J. Foyt raced at the Liverpool City Raceway during 1975 and 1976 has Australia played host to a modern day super hero of the American ovals during the peak of their career. The American trio will take to the Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway for the first time on Saturday December 26 for the Valvoline Australian Sprintcar Grand Prix before backing up a few days later (December 29) for the Hogs Breath Sprintcar International. The December 29 event will also feature a Demolition Derby. On the first weekend in the New Year (January 2 & 3) Stewart, Schatz and Shaffer will be joined by fellow American Jason Johnson and Australia's best including Brooke Tatnell, Max Dumesny, Robbie Farr, Ryan Farrell and Kerry Madsen to battle for the $50,000 to win Scott Darley race presented by Coca Cola.(BAM Media PR)

Stewart blames media for myth of boring races: Tony Stewart had harsh words for the media at Texas Motor Speedway, holding them at least partially responsible for the fan backlash from last weekend's Talladega race. "The races are exciting. It's like everybody wants the perfect race every time. You can't do that," Stewart said. "I mean, the drivers think about how they can be smart all day. "It's a situation where the race is so long that you can fight your guts out to try to get to the front in the 100 miles, but what have you accomplished? "You haven't accomplished anything, absolutely nothing." Stewart said only the final 10 to 15 laps matter. "The hardest thing is we got this room in particular that keeps telling people that it's a boring race," he said. "So we leave, and then we listen to the fans complain because it's something that they read in the magazine or read in a paper, you know, that everybody keeps trying to reinforce to them that it's a boring race."(ThatsRacin.com)

Stewart wins Prelude to the Dream: Tony Stewart won the fifth annual Gillette Young Guns Prelude to the Dream all-star dirt late model race Wednesday night at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, marking the third time in four years Stewart has won the event. Stewart passed Kenny Wallace on lap 13 of the 30-lap event and led the final 18 laps en route to victory. “This was probably the best I’ve run in the Prelude,” said Stewart, who bought Eldora in 2004. Clint Bowyer finished 3.358 seconds behind Stewart in the runner-up spot, while Kyle Busch, Ryan Newman and Matt Kenseth rounded out the top-five. Drag Racing standout Cruz Pedregon, David Reutimann, Aric Almirola, Kasey Kahne and Jimmie Johnson comprised the top-10. There were four caution periods during the event, although the laps conducted under caution did not count. The race, which drew more than 23,000 fans, was broadcast live on HBO Pay-Per-View with proceeds from the nationwide telecast supporting four military-themed charities – Wounded Warrior ProjectIntrepid Fallen Heroes FundOperation Homefront and Fisher House (True Speed Communication)

Stewart wrecks in Saturday AM practice: Tony Stewart, scheduled to start first in the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway on Sunday after qualifying was rained out, wrecked just a few minutes into Saturday's first practice. Stewart got loose between turn 2 and 3, hit the wall and spun around, doing serious damage to the right side and rear end of the No. 14 Old Spice Swagger Chevy. The team pulled out the backup car and Stewart will have to fall to the rear of the field before the green flag on Sunday. Stewart had the same problem at Pocono back in June. Qualifying was rained out, so Stewart started first as the points leader. Stewart wrecked in practice and went to a back, started at the rear of the field and won the race. (PR)

Tony Stewart to host Chamber Day at Kansas Speedway: Kansas Speedway will play host to its seventh annual Office Depot Chamber Day on Oct. 2, and this year's event will feature NASCAR Sprint Cup points leader Tony Stewart. The event, an opportunity to network with business leaders from more than 30 Kansas City-area chambers of commerce, will take place during Qualifying Day for the Price Chopper 400 presented by Kraft Foods. The Chamber Day event is particularly meaningful for Stewart, a two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion who has taken on the role of driver/team owner with Stewart-Haas Racing and is sponsored by Office Depot. “I know how challenging it is to build a successful business and how much hard work it takes,” said Stewart, who won the 2006 Cup race at Kansas Speedway. No. 14's Darian Grubb named Wypall Crew Chief of the Race: Darian Grubb, crew chief for the No. 14 Burger King Chevy driven by Tony Stewart, has been named the Wypall Wipers Crew Chief of the Race following Saturday night's Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway. After qualifying was rained out, the No. 14 team was able to pick the first pit stall by virtue of acquiring the pole position as the points leader. Great track position and a strong car that needed very few changes throughout the evening gave the team an advantage over the rest of the field. Stewart led the most laps in the race and resided in the top-three for nearly all of the 400 miles completed. In addition to the $1,000 check, the winning crew chief will receive signage to announce the win on their pit box the following week. The crew chief with the most weekly wins will be honored as the Wypall Wipers Crew Chief of the Year and will be presented a $20,000 check at the season finale in Homestead.(Wypall)

No. 14 crew win Tissot Pit Crew Award in Daytona: Tony Stewart's crew won the Tissot Pit Road Precision Award in Saturday night's Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway. The fast pit stops by the #14 crew helped Stewart win the 160-lap, 400-mile race. Stewart's Chevy spent the least amount of time on pit road - 238.890 seconds. The No. 14 over-the-wall crew consists of: Jeff "Gooch" Patterson (gasman), Scott Radel (catch can), Rick Pigeon (jackman), Kelly Kellis (front tire changer), Todd Drakulich (front tire carrier), Daniel Smith (rear tire changer) and Mike "Shrek" Morneau (rear tire carrier). The team's crew chief is Darian Grubb and the pit crew coach is Joe Piette Jr. At the halfway point of the season (18 races completed), the crews for Jeff Gordon and Greg Biffle lead in the Tissot standings with three wins each. Stewart's and Jimmie Johnson's crews are tied for third with two wins each. The No. 14 team will collect $5,000 for the pit road win. The team with the most Tissot Pit Road Precision Award wins at the completion of the 36-race Sprint Cup schedule will receive a $100,000 bonus plus Tissot watches for the crew and driver.(Tissot)

Did you know - Stewart was fourth driver to win race starting from 43rd in '09? Tony Stewart became the fourth driver to win a race after having started at the rear. Matt Kenseth did it in the Daytona 500 after going to a backup car. Kyle Busch did it at Las Vegas after an engine change. Brad Keselowski did it at Talladega for an engine change. Stewart did it at Pocono because of a backup car. (Virginian-Pilot)

Stewart's off-week plans: During a rare off week for the Sprint Cup Series next week, one thing is a good bet: you won't see Tony Stewart. "I'm going to be invisible," promised Stewart, who is eighth in the Cup championship standings in his first year as an owner/driver with Stewart-Haas Racing. "I'm leaving town. I don't know what (crew chief) Darian (Grubb) and the guys are going to do. "I'm sure they're going to work their tails off like they always do. But I'm going to get away. I need a break right now. It's perfect timing for a break after this weekend." (Sporting News)

Stewart doesn't see himself at driver/owner: Tony Stewart is now a driver-owner in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, but he doesn't see it that way. Stewart, driver of the No. 14 Old Spice/Office Depot Chevrolet, acknowledges wearing two hats in his first year as an owner in the series. He's just not wearing them at the same time. "The only way it really works is to be a car owner four days a week and be a driver those three days we're at the race track," Stewart said Wednesday at Texas Motor Speedway's annual media day. "It's hard enough just being in the driver's role. That's part of having the right people in the right places." Stewart said owning a short track and World of Outlaws and USAC teams have helped prepare him for his new challenge. (Dallas Morning News)

No. 14 Stewart Crew wins Pit Road Precision Award: The No. 14 crew for Tony Stewart took top honors Sunday, winning the Tissot Pit Road Precision Award at the Auto Club 500 Sprint Cup race in Fontana, CA. Stewart's Old Spice/Office Depot Chevy spent the least amount of time on pit road (260.940 seconds) during the 250 lap, 500-mile race at Auto Club Speedway. The winning pit road performance helped Stewart to an eighth-place finish in the second race of the season. The #No 4 over-the-wall crew consists of: Jeff "Gooch" Patterson (gasman), Scott Radel (catch can), Mike Casto (jackman), Kelly Kellis (front tire changer), Todd Drakulich (front tire carrier), Daniel Smith (rear tire changer), Mike Morneau (rear tire carrier) and Troy Welty (windshield). The team's crew chief is Darian Grubb and the pit crew trainer is Joe Piette. The Tissot Pit Road Precision Award pays $5,000 for each Cup race to the winning pit road team. In addition, the team with the most pit road event wins will be awarded a $100,000 bonus at the completion of the 36-race schedule by Tissot, the official watch and timekeeper of NASCAR.(DMF Communications/Tissot PR)

Stewart and Newman blast Goodyear tires: Neither Tony Stewart nor Ryan Newman was happy with Goodyear after they crashed with each other in Saturday morning's final Daytona 500 practice. "Same thing everybody has been talking about all week, same stuff we talk about every year - the failures that Goodyear has," Stewart said after a right-rear tire on Newman's car blew, sending the No. 39 Chevrolet around right in front of Stewart. Both of their Stewart-Haas Racing cars were damaged badly enough that they were forced to backup cars. It's the second backup car Newman has needed this week. "I think that's part of their marketing campaign," Stewart said of NASCAR's tire supplier. "The more we talk about it the more press they get. I think they forget that it's supposed to be in a good way, not a bad way." (ThatsRacin.com)

Stewart fined after USAC incident: Tony Stewart was fined $10,000 and his team was placed on probation Monday following an altercation last week at the USAC's National Midget race in Indianapolis. Stewart was fined for unsportsmanlike conduct and conduct detrimental to racing. USAC said in a statement that Stewart was involved in an on-track incident Thursday at O'Reilly Raceway Park related to one of his Midgets driven by points leader Tracy Hines. Hines had scraped the wall and pitted for a tire change, but his car was not deemed ready to re-enter the race in time to rejoin the field for the restart. Stewart then came down to pit lane to get an explanation for the call. He reportedly knocked the headset from the official's head and then shoved him. "USAC immediately assessed the incident and it was determined that unacceptable behavior detrimental to the sport had occurred, and that the professionalism and the integrity of the series and its promoters had been severely compromised," Jason Smith, USAC's vice president of racing operations, said in the statement. "While we respect the passion of our teams in the spirit of competition, we regret this incident occurred and are dedicated to averting a recurrence in the future." (ESPN.com)

Three drivers on Stewart's wish list? Stewart said that Ryan Newman is just one of three drivers on his short list. Presumably, Martin Truex Jr. and Jamie McMurray are the other two. And Stewart is battling car owners Joe Gibbs and Richard Childress, who are both also looking for drivers. McMurray's future with car owner Jack Roush has been up for debate the past several weeks, and the speculation has become intense that Roush would be releasing McMurray. But apparently sponsor Crown Royal is pushing Roush to keep McMurray in the fold, and as tough as good sponsors are to find, that could well end that whole debate. McMurray has been mentioned as being on Childress' short list for his new fourth team. But Childress now appears to be back in the market trying to sign Truex. A Childress-Truex deal was in the works earlier this year, until Teresa Earnhardt, who owns DEI, said she would hold Truex to the option year on his current DEI contract for 2009.(Winston Salem Journal)

Office Depot and Old Spice to sponsor #14 Tony Stewart in 2009: Office Depot and Old Spice will serve as co-primary sponsors of Tony Stewart’s No. 14 Chevrolet Impala SS NASCAR Sprint Cup Series entry beginning in 2009. Officials from the two companies, as well as from Stewart-Haas Racing, made the announcement today near Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Office Depot, a leading global provider of office products and services, along with Old Spice, the No. 1 antiperspirant/deodorant stick and body wash choice for guys in the United States, have entered into multi-year agreements with Stewart-Haas Racing to sponsor the new entry driven by Stewart. In addition, both Office Depot and Old Spice are official NASCAR® partners, successfully leveraging their relationships with NASCAR and their race team sponsorships as powerful marketing platforms for their brands. “To have Office Depot and Old Spice throw their support behind me and this race team makes me extremely proud,” said Stewart, who announced on July 10 that he had acquired a 50 percent stake in what is now known as Stewart-Haas Racing. The trademark application covers a variety of products – everything from paper goods to luggage, knives, air fresheners, video featuring racing themes and several other items. The application was filed July 2, according in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office database.(SceneDaily.com)

Gibbs preferred not to release Stewart: Joe and J.D. Gibbs made clear Saturday allowing driver Tony Stewart to exit his contract a year early to pursue ownership in Haas CNC Racing was not their preferred option. “First of all, we didn’t let him go. Tony came to us and said he wanted to leave,” said team owner Joe Gibbs. “We had a contract through next year and we talked about that and our initial reaction was we’d race through next year (together). “I think the more we talked it over with ourselves, Tony and Home Depot – Home Depot didn’t have any part of this decision, they didn’t have a choice – we just reached a conclusion that it would probably be best under these set of circumstances to allow Tony to pursue another option.” (ThatsRacin)

Stewart to partner with Haas Racing in 2009; driver/owner at Stewart Haas Racing: Two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart has set his NASCAR future, and it’s as an owner and driver with Stewart-Haas Racing beginning in 2009. Stewart-Haas Racing is the new partnership between Stewart and Haas CNC Racing, with the revamped entity slated to run two cars full-time in the Sprint Cup Series. “This is an incredible opportunity that allows me to race competitively in NASCAR’s top division while carving out a place in this sport long after my driving career is over,” Stewart said. “I’ve won races and I’ve won championships and I know I could’ve continued to do that at Joe Gibbs Racing, but to attempt to do those things as a car owner is something that really appeals to me. There’s a whole new sense of appreciation and satisfaction that comes with success when you’re both a driver and an owner.” (PR)

JGR statement on Stewart's departure: Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) and Tony Stewart have agreed to part ways upon the conclusion of the 2008 season. The two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion will finish the 2008 Sprint Cup season with JGR behind the wheel of the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota. Stewart will also compete for JGR in the two NASCAR Nationwide Series races still remaining on his original, nine-race Nationwide Series schedule – July 11 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill., and Aug. 16 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. Stewart will pilot the No. 20 Old Spice Toyota in those two events. “We’ve had a lot of success with Tony in our 12 years here at Joe Gibbs Racing,” said J.D. Gibbs, president of JGR. “While this moment is bittersweet, we’re parting on good terms and we know that each of us has benefited greatly from the other. “We grew to two teams in the Sprint Cup Series with Tony and The Home Depot in 1999, and two championships and 32 wins followed. While our time together is coming to an end, we know there’s still a lot of racing left this season and we plan to make the most of it. On behalf of everyone at JGR, we’re proud of everything we’ve accomplished together with Tony and we wish him the best in pursuing his dream of NASCAR team ownership.” (JGR PR)

Details regarding our future plans will be announced at a later date.” (PR)

Stewart interested in the Hendrick #5 car: Tony Stewart proclaimed his interest Friday in Hendrick Motorsports’ soon-to-be-vacated No. 5 Chevrolet, saying the removal of Casey Mears from that ride could alter his plans for 2009 and beyond. Stewart has another year left on his contract with Joe Gibbs Racing but has expressed interest in partial ownership of another team. Reports have said the deal is done, with sponsors and drivers named. But Stewart said that wasn’t the case, joking at New Hampshire Motor Speedway that there are some teams he has yet to talk to. “I’ve still got two ARCA teams I’m talking to, a truck team and now the 5 car’s available,” Stewart said. “I’ve still got a lot of work to do.” But Stewart wasn’t joking when asked if Hendrick’s No. 5 would be something he would be interested in. “Absolutely, absolutely,” Stewart said. “You’ve got to. There’s nobody in this garage area that’s not going to look in that direction. You’ve got to look at that.” (NASCAR Scene Daily)

Zipadelli has options in JGR contract if Stewart leaves: Should Stewart leave, Zipadelli could go with him and extend the longest crew chief-driver reign in Cup. The long-term extension he signed with JGR last season has outs in it if Stewart is not with the organization. But Zipadelli doesn't sound like a man seeking to start over as Stewart would be doing to some degree if he joined a fledgling race team such as Haas. He is happy at JGR and enjoys the security the company offers him and his family, which expanded by one this past Wednesday with the birth of his second son and third child. "Joe Gibbs Racing gave me an opportunity 10 years ago and has not ever given me any reason not to want to be here,'' Zipadelli said. "That's what's disappointing about the situation. I don't think for just racing there's a better place as far as owners. "I know there's other good, competitive race teams out there. I have a lot of respect for them. … I don't know if ever in 10 years we've ever been told no, we couldn't do something.'' (ESPN.com)

Stewart's post-race response to NASCAR's driver meeting: [But] leave it to Tony Stewart to insinuate what everyone already knew: The real message Helton sent was one of "shut up and drive." "Ask Mike Helton. I don't know what we're allowed to say and what we're not," Stewart said during his post-race radio interview on Motor Racing Network. "I'm just thankful we're allowed to be here. It's just a privilege for us to be here, and according to Friday, we've all got it a lot better than a lot of us think. "We're not allowed to have opinions now. We've all got it made here. We've all got it great. At least that is what we've all been told." (AP/SportingNews)

Tony Stewart to help midwest flood victims: When #20-Tony Stewart returned to his hometown of Columbus, Ind., late Sunday night after the race at Pocono. There, Stewart, a 1989 graduate of Columbus North High School saw his town under water. With people displaced and many homes severely damaged if not destroyed, Stewart quickly found a new perspective on true sorrow and disappointment. On Monday, he visited the Columbus Public Works garage and thanked all those who had been working around the clock to help restore the town’s infrastructure. He also stopped by his old junior high school, which the American Red Cross had converted into a shelter for flood evacuees. There, Stewart chatted with those who had to call the gymnasium floor their temporary home, and allowed them a short distraction from the headaches and worry that came when rising flood waters significantly altered their lives. There were so many stories of hardship, Stewart wondered where to even start. The answer: Sunday’s LifeLock 400 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. Whatever Stewart’s portion of the race winnings are in the LifeLock 400, he’ll donate them to the American Red Cross in Columbus, with the money specified for flood assistance. Those wishing to join Stewart in helping those affected by the floods throughout Indiana can call 812-379-9551 or send checks payable to The American Red Cross, 931 Repp Drive, Columbus, IN 47201. If writing a check, write “Indiana Flood & Tornado Relief” on the memo line. How is your home in Columbus? “My old house by the high school is good. The farm is just wet, absolutely saturated. You can’t get on it. You can’t do anything. And we’re getting baby deer now. We have four little ones, and we’ve got them on the deck in a small pen because you can’t get on the ground to put them anywhere. They’re so young, you don’t want them to get stuck.”(True Speed Communication/JGR PR)
